Cycloidal cutting

Cycloidal cutting is a continual cutting process for the exact production of face gears: The rotating workpiece is machined by a rotating cutter head at a fixed speed and a programmed RPM ratio. The cutter head is equipped with carbide inserts.

Depending on the arrangement of the edges in the cutter head, different cycloid trajectories result meaning different edge trajectories.

The round cams receive their end contour with the subsequent circular cutting with an end mill cutter. The take-off is done using the circular interpolation of the workpiece and tool axes.
